One of the largest property and leisure management, development and regeneration companies in the UK, Places for People, has pledged to put young people first by signing up as the latest Founder Patron for soon-to-open Chorley Youth Zone.

Places for People, which has offices in Preston and owns and manages houses across Lancashire, has agreed to a generous donation of £75,000 over three years which will help turn Chorley Youth Zone into reality.

Expected to open in spring 2018, Chorley Youth Zone, headed by Chairman Andrew Turner and named ‘Inspire’ by local young people, will be a place where young people can reach their full potential, grow their dreams and achieve their goals. The Youth Zone will offer a wide range of activities for thousands of young people aged between eight and 19, or up to 25 for those with a disability, including; dance, sport, music, media, employability and mentoring programmes. Inspire will cost young people just £5 per year and 50p per visit.

Places for People is now the third property provider in Chorley to support Inspire Youth Zone after Chorley Community Housing and Progress Housing recently came on board. This brings the total number of Founder Patrons to 13 supportive local businesses, each with a vested interest in the community and a determination to make a meaningful difference to the lives and aspirations of local young people.

Tony Hennon, Project Co-ordinator at Places for People said:-

“We are thrilled to be supporting the young people of Chorley by investing in Chorley Youth Zone. Our vision is to provide aspirational homes and inspirational places. When we visited existing youth zones we were blown away by the scale of the offer and firmly believe Chorley Youth Zone will be an inspirational place for young people from Chorley and the surrounding areas. Inspire will not only benefit the families living in our homes across Chorley but will also improve the opportunities for children in the wider community, providing them with somewhere safe to go and enjoy themselves.”

Janine Blythe, Chief Executive at Chorley Youth Zone said:-

“A heartfelt thank you to Places for People for choosing to support the Youth Zone and the town’s young people. We have now gained support from all three housing providers in Chorley which is a great achievement. Without the support of our growing family of Founder Patrons, Inspire Youth Zone cannot become a reality for Chorley’s young people.”

The project is being run in partnership with Chorley Council, Lancashire County Council, The Arts Partnership and OnSide Youth Zones.

Becoming a Founder Patron of Inspire Youth Zone is a chance for the local businesses and philanthropists to create a legacy for the future of Chorley. Their support and endorsement of the project will serve to encourage others to invest in the future of the town’s young people.
