Ready to put her sports degree learning to the test, Becky Ramshead, age 21, is going the extra mile for Chorley’s young people by volunteering within the sports team at Inspire Youth Zone.
This summer Becky will complete her BA Hons Degree in Sports Coaching and be one step closer to achieving her lifelong goal of becoming a P.E teacher.
Whilst taking a year out before studying for a PGCE, Becky will volunteer at Inspire Youth Zone to gain unparalleled first-hand experience of working with children and young people.
Becky will harness her sports coaching skills by delivering a range of engaging sports activities to hundreds of young people per week, including football, netball, basketball, hockey, dodgeball and more.
After completing Inspire’s volunteer training session, Becky said “I have just finished a sports coaching module at university and the project I designed was very similar to the offer at Inspire Youth Zone. With over 20 activities available every night and a wide range of traditional and non-traditional sports available, I am really interested to see this offer come to life at Inspire. I already volunteer as a football coach, but I am looking forward to gaining experience of working with younger children at Inspire Youth Zone’s Junior Club.”
Michelle Graham, Training and Volunteer Manager at Inspire Youth Zone said “With a diverse range of people willing to volunteer at Inspire, we have had a brilliant response from the community. Without volunteers like Becky, we wouldn’t be able to open 7 days per week. Inspire Youth Zone is a place where young people can try new activities, make new friends and most importantly have fun – making it a truly inspiring place to volunteer!”
From Saturday 5 May 2018, Inspire Youth Zone will be open to young people 7 days per week. The brand new charity will host an impressive 3G kick pitch, sports hall, dance studio, fully equipped gym, training kitchen, girls room, martial arts studio, arts & crafts area and much more – all available to young people aged 8-19 and up to 25 with a disability, for just 50p per visit.
