Mentors offer young people a safe place to discuss anything that may be going on in their lives and support them to access new experiences, explore interest and of course, develop new life skills.
For some young people it might be they struggle to interact with others and need support breaking out their comfort zone with someone they can open up to and have fun with. For others, it may be that they are looking at taking the next step in their future and need additional support to get work ready.
Whatever it is. we’ll work with you the mentor and them the mentee to guarantee a good match where your relationship can blossom, and you can make a difference to a young life.
A friendly approach and the ability to build relationships with young people is what makes a good mentor. What makes a GREAT mentor is that plus someone who oozes enthusiasm, is a good listener and communicator, has common sense, a sense of humour, and a commitment to seeing things through.

What commitment do I need to give?
A usual mentoring relationship will run for approximately one hour per week for a 6–12-month period. There are exceptions to this rule but these will be picked up on a mentor-mentee basis.
Where does mentoring take place?
Mentoring takes place at Inspire itself. With space for chats and a variety of activities to be able to get involved in, you can find all you’d need to build your mentor-mentee relationship through our doors. *there is potential for offsite if wanted
How long will it take to be matched to a mentee?
There is certain training you will have to complete (alongside a DBS check) before you are ready to become an Inspire mentor. You will then be matched with a young person that we feel will benefit from you being their mentor. This may be an instant match, or it may be further down the line – what is most important is that it is the right match for both of you.

Matt has a background in Sales and Marketing and led a MBO of UK company Utiligroup in 2014 before it was acquired by ESG in 2017 and has been with the business for 24 years. Matt won an EY Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2016 as well as being a judge in 2018 and in 2017 his team was awarded the UK Regional and National Mid Market Management Team of the Year awards by the BVCA. Matt holds a BSc (Hons) degree from The University of Salford and a MBA from Lancaster University.
