Inspire’s first group of volunteers are ready to make a difference in their community, after completing the Youth Zone’s first volunteer training session on Saturday 27th January 2018, marking another key milestone in the Chorley Youth Zone journey.

The first volunteer training session was completed by fourteen local people, each looking to give something back to their community by supporting young people’s charity, Inspire Youth Zone.

With less than 100 days to go until Inspire Youth Zone opens, preparations for a fantastic launch are well underway, with an ambitious target of training 70 volunteers prior to the grand opening on Saturday 5th May 2018.

Open 7 days a week for hundreds of young people from Chorley and the surrounding areas, volunteers will play a fundamental role in the success of the Youth Zone. They will support the youth work team to deliver a range of quality activities including indoor climbing, archery, football, dance, music, media and much more – all available for young people for just 50p per visit.

Barbara Lowe, an active volunteer involved in a number of organisations across Chorley, including community radio station, Chorley FM said: “Inspire Youth Zone will have a training kitchen where young people can develop their cooking skills. My daughter Steph and I both realised this was a wonderful opportunity for us to try something new, by sharing our love for cooking and baking with young people, so we both decided to become volunteers. With so many activities available, there are volunteering opportunities to suit everyone.”

Michelle Graham, Volunteer and Training Manager at Inspire said: “Inspire Youth Zone is one of Chorley’s biggest young people’s charities and our work is only made possible by the commitment from our dedicated volunteers. From as little as 3 hours per week, our volunteers will support young people to live healthier, happier, more aspirational lives.”
