Chorley’s young people teamed up with partners Chorley Council to spread the message of Inspire Youth Zone at the annual Picnic in the Park event at Chorley’s Astley Park on Sunday.

Chorley Council teamed up with Rock FM to bring a fantastic family stage show to Astley Park with performances from Mr Bloom, children’s entertainers, top local bands, singers, and a surprise guest from a popular television reality contest as well as face painters and balloon modellers.

There was lots of free fun including interactive activities for children like circus workshops, sports, games, orienteering challenges, arts and crafts, creature cuddles with the animals of Pets Corner and not forgetting the opportunity to explore Astley Hall and the exhibitions in Astley Farmhouse.

As well as taking in the fun, Chorley’s Young People’s Development Group held their own stall on the park as they aiemd to spread the word that Inspire Youth Zone is coming to Chorley!

The group managed to speak to hundreds of members of the Chorley community throughout the day receiving some really positive feedback in the process.

One mum commented: “It’s about time we had something like this in Chorley; I need something to keep my son engaged.”

They also managed to get more than 30 potential young people signed up to be potential Development Group members, adding to the existing group.

Planning permission for our Youth Zone was submitted in March with a successful decision expected in mid-July.

Stay tuned.
